International Women’s Day

Date: 8 March 2013

The recently appointed Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sally Sievers invites all members of the Northern Territory Community to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March 2013.

“International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements and gains of women, but it’s also a time to reflect on what still needs to be done”, said the Commissioner.

“As Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, my charter is to promote equal opportunity for all, and to strive for the elimination of discrimination in the Territory.”

But on International Women’s Day, I’d like to focus on the particular discrimination issues in the Territory affecting women, where this is still so much to be done - violence against women and children, sexual harassment in the work force, and achieving equal pay and superannuation”

“I want to hear from women in the NT about discrimination they’ve experienced to help me set priorities for the next few years.”

The Ant-Discrimination Commission will have an information stall at Parliament House from 10.30am to 12.30pm, after the International Women’s Day Walk on Saturday 9 March 2013. Women can also contact the Commission on 1800 813 846 or email
